Our Story
Crowthers Chartered Accountants (then named Crowther & Co) was founded in 1989 by Jonathan Crowther who acquired the Pershore Office from a former employee and decided to start out on his own as a sole practitioner.
The firm expanded to a second location in Ledbury in 2001 following its merger with Beard & Company.
In 2007 the firm incorporated as Crowthers Accountants Limited and became known as Crowthers Chartered Accountants.
The firm expanded again in 2017 when a third office in Cheltenham was opened as a specialist Corporate Tax office.
In 2019 the firm opened its fourth location, a new Rural office at Twyning near Tewkesbury, which has become a central base for the company’s Farming Team.
We now have a team of five directors and still have clients from the early days. As we are a family business, we love to work with other family businesses as we share their goals and challenges.
Directors
Jonathan Crowther FCA
Jonathan is our founder and Chairman. He was in General Practice for over 40 years and specialized in succession planning and Inheritance Tax. Jonathan has now retired from client work but still keeps a watchful eye over the business and looks after our IT.
He enjoys keeping fit with at least 2 rounds of golf every week!
Nikki Walding FCA CTA
Nikki is our Pershore Director and specialises in accounts and tax planning for our corporate and larger clients. She has a specialist team dealing with small jobs and personal tax. Nikki joined the firm in 1997.
In her spare time Nikki enjoys spending time with her family in their home in Devon.
Ian Cooke FCA
Ian is our Ledbury Director and specialises in accounts and tax planning for owner-managed businesses. He has a specialist team dealing with smaller jobs and Ledbury also operates our payroll bureau service. Ian joined the firm in 2000.
In his spare time, Ian enjoys watching Hereford FC, reading crime fiction and visiting the local cinema.
Sophie Howard FCA
Sophie is our Head of Agriculture and Twyning Director and joined the Firm in 2002. Sophie specialises in farming clients and their diversified businesses. She has a specialist team dealing with farming services and we are one of the very few specialist agricultural firms of accountants in the area. Sophie was brought up on a farm so has an understanding of the challenges that farming clients face.
In her spare time Sophie enjoys spending time with her two children who are often on the football pitch or on a pony!
Sara Crowther FCA CTA
Sara is our Head of Tax and Cheltenham Director. Sara covers all aspects of tax but her specialisms are corporation tax, property tax, inheritance tax and research and development (R&D) tax relief. She has an experienced team to assist her with dealing with all aspects of tax and R&D. Sara enjoys working closely with her clients throughout their business life cycle, guiding them from start-up, through growth and ultimately assisting them to prepare for exit. She helps her clients to develop a plan for the future as well as mitigating their tax liabilities. She provides financial consultancy as well as tax advice and strategy.
Sara joined the family firm as a director in 2017. In her spare time Sara enjoys renovating property, skiing, shooting and socialising.
Associate Directors and Senior Managers
Harriet Turner ACA CTA
Harriet is our Associate Director and joined the firm in 2021, splitting her time between our Cheltenham and Pershore offices. Harriet works with our corporate clients, assisting with corporate restructures and Stamp Duty, she is also involved in remuneration planning and personal tax returns.
In her spare time, she enjoys walking her Dog and travelling.
Gareth Edwards FCCA CTA
Gareth is our Associate Director at Pershore, he joined the firm in 2024 and works closely with owner-managed businesses, particularly limited companies.
He provides practical business and tax advise, helping with year-end accounts, corporation tax, and remuneration planning, as well as supporting long-term growth strategies.
Gareth enjoys building strong relationships with clients and offering clear, straightforward guidance.
Outside of work, Gareth enjoys playing Golf and Football.
Kelly Cummings BSc ACA
Kelly is our Senior Manager in Ledbury and specialises in Ledbury general practice work and our payroll bureau service. Kelly joined the firm in 2002, straight from A-levels, and during her time, has worked up from a trainee to her present role as senior manager. Kelly knows the Ledbury area well, having lived in the Ledbury area all her life and enjoys helping clients.
In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family, making memories.
Sarah Medcalf ACA
Sarah is our Senior Agricultural Manager in Twyning and specialises in farming clients as a farmer’s daughter herself. Sarah joined the firm in the farming team in 2015 as a graduate and previously worked in both our Ledbury and Pershore offices during her training.
In her spare time, Sarah enjoys playing hockey and training her two dogs Nara and Rudy who are often in the Twyning Office greeting our clients.
